McGregor Alternative Technology Centre, also known as “MAT”, is situated on the edge of the picturesque and peaceful village of McGregor about 2 hours drive from Cape Town. MAT is right next to a nature reserve and has beautiful views of the surrounding hills and mountains. MAT teaches sustainable building, renewable energy, permaculture and holistic healing. 


We also have a resource centre with a growing body of information and experienced enthusiasts when you need in depth information and know how.

Situated on the edge of a nature reserve Little Cottage is the self-catering cottage  on McGregor Alternative Technology Centre. We offer an opportunity to sleep in a cob house, experience solar energy, compost toilets, and permaculture. Built of natural materials and practising organic living and being.
